Biofusion was founded in 2002 to commercialise university intellectual property. In January 2005 Biofusion signed a 10 year exclusive agreement with the University of Sheffield to commercialise all the University owned medical IP.
The University of Sheffield provides Biofusion with a world class pipeline of IP and is forecast to spend over £500m on research over the life of the agreement. The pipeline gives Biofusion the exclusive rights over 10 years to all of the University’s rights to IP derived from Medical Life Sciences which has a medical application, and to commercialise this IP either through the formation of spin-out companies, in which Biofusion will have a majority equity participation, or by licensing.
Currently Biofusion has ten companies in its portfolio are Axordia, Adjuvantix, Asterion, CellTran, BioActa, Simcyp, Plasso, Diurnal, Genophrenix and Life Style Choices.
