CellTran's focus is on repairing the skin and they have pioneered major advances in the ability to grow cells and crucially, to transfer them back to the patient on novel surfaces ('biological bandages') for the treatment of chronic wounds, burns and scalds. The company is a spin-out from the University of Sheffield founded by Professor Shiela MacNeil and Professor Robert Short in 2000.
Myskin™ is the first product to be launched by CellTran , a scientifically advanced product yet is designed to offer ease of use for the benefit of both patient and medical professional. Myskin is comprised of a flexible medical-grade backing polymer coated with a chemically controlled plasma polymer film which supports the growth of skin cells. Once cultured, myskin is applied so that cells are in contact with the wound bed. The polymer film is engineered to promote cell growth and subsequent release when triggered by exposure to the wound environment.
