Framework Seven (FP7)
What is it?
Framework Programme Seven is the European Strategic Research Programme that provides funding for research and development projects carried out in Europe. The programme will run from 2007 until 2013 with a budget of approximately 50.5billion Euro and there are a number of ways to access the funds available.
Who can apply?
There are many different schemes that can be applied for, some of them are open to large organisations, researchers and small to medium sized companies (SMEs). However, other instruments are only available to SMEs.
Within the programme there will be seven priority areas for which funding will be made available. There is considerable scope for bioscience projects, with the priority areas including Genomics and Biotechnology for Health, Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences and Food Quality and Safety.
How much does the company pay?
The amount of money contributed by the European Commission may vary between instruments, however is never 100% of the total project costs. The EC contribution will have to be match funded by the participants in the project.
